Whistling Straits Golf Course, owned by Kohler, is only ten miles from the American Club Resort Hotel, and it has been likened by some players to the famed Pebble Beach. Whistling Strait is one of the best public courses in the United States and will host the 2021 Ryder Cup in addition to three PGA Championships. Whistling Straits' two Pete Dye-designed courses offer less than spectacular views of Lake Michigan or the surrounding mountains. This course, which makes its way along the cliffs and sandbanks above Lake Michigan, will transport golfers to the peaceful savanna or rugged shore of Ireland.
Saugatuck, Michigan
This trendy resort town is located on the Art Coast of Michigan, about 130 miles from Chicago, and features porticos, boutiques, great banqueting, and beaches. Despite having a population of less than a thousand, Saugatuck is famous for its lively nightlife and acceptance of the LGBTQ community. Tourists who are taking the chain boat here are likely doing so out of a sense of nostalgia.
